FIELD ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN I – III (Full‑time)
Department:
Bureau of Construction, State of New Hampshire Department of Transportation.
- I: $15.93/hr – $20.80/hr
- II: $17.81/hr – $23.39/hr
- III: $19.96/hr – $26.41/hr
- Level I
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalency. - Experience:
2 years as an Engineering Aide (at least 1 year at level equivalent to Engineering Aide II) or Associate’s degree in a relevant field with no experience required. - License:
Valid driver’s license and access to transportation. - Other:
Motor Vehicle Record must meet department standards.
- Education:
- Level II
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalency. - Experience:
3 years as an Engineering Aide or Technician (at least 1 year at level equivalent to Engineering Technician I) or Associate’s degree in a relevant field with 1 year at that level. - License:

- Conduct field tests of soils, concrete, and bituminous materials.
- Assist inspection of contractor performance.
- Document and assist in creating project records.
- Audit project records and correct errors.
- Gather and maintain engineering data records using surveying and drafting equipment.
- Check layout and placement of roadway and bridge construction items.
- Level II
- Inspect contractor performance.
- Conduct field tests or supervise consultant testing.
- Make field measurements for documentation and payment.
- Document and assist in preparing project records.
- Audit project records and correct errors.
- Gather and maintain engineering data records.
- Use surveying and drafting equipment.
- Check layout and placement of roadway and bridge items.
- Administer minor resurfacing and highway contracts.
- Level III
- Oversee phases of construction projects.
- Oversee or perform field‑testing of soils, concrete, and bituminous materials.
- Make measurements and perform calculations for progress payments.
- Document and prepare project records.
- Assist in inspection of safety devices.
- Oversee audit of project records.
- Check layout for bridges, drainage structures, buildings, and roadway.
- Administer resurfacing contracts and/or minor roadway and bridge contracts as Contract Administrator.
