Position: CIVIL ENGINEER IV

CIVIL ENGINEER IV

Department of Transportation, Bureau of Highway Design, Concord, NH. Position #21180. Salary: $31.33—$42.60 per hour.

Summary

Coordinate and supervise roadway design for a group of highway projects.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Four (4) years of post-baccalaureate engineering experience.
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in engineering with six (6) years of post-baccalaureate engineering experience.
  • OR Associate’s degree in engineering or engineering technology with six (6) years of experience at a level equivalent to Civil Engineer I (or higher) and two additional years comparable to an Engineering Technician.
License / Certification
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Civil, Civil Highway, Geo Technical, or Structural Engineering.
  • Valid driver’s license and/or access to transportation.
Other Requirements
  • Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards established by the hiring agency.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles, modern design methods, construction, maintenance, operation, and effective supervision.
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations for surveying and design, prepare and interpret civil engineering plans, maps, and specifications.
  • Ability to plan and supervise professional and technical assistants, make comprehensive recommendations, and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with associates, subordinates, consultants, contractors, and contractor employees.
  • Willingness to maintain appropriate appearance for assigned duties.
After-Hire Requirements

Must possess a New Hampshire Professional Engineer license within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities
  • Identify, analyze, and evaluate project factors to resolve conflicts and avoid delays.
  • Study and formulate recommendations on engineering and project issues to achieve optimal design.
  • Communicate with individuals and organizations to coordinate appropriate input into projects.
  • Study, recommend, and present solutions to design problems to superiors.
  • Supervise, train, and direct subordinates to achieve broad engineering goals.
  • Review draft technical reports and correspondence for project development.
