Job Objective

The Waterfront Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, analysis, permitting, and construction support of waterfront and marine infrastructure projects. This position works collaboratively with project managers, engineers, surveyors, regulatory agencies, contractors, and clients to deliver practical and cost-effective engineering solutions for coastal and inland waterfront facilities.

Essential Functions
  • Design waterfront and marine infrastructure including piers, wharves, docks, bulkheads, revetments, seawalls, marinas, boat ramps, and shoreline stabilization projects.
  • Prepare engineering plans, specifications, technical calculations, and construction documents.
  • Perform structural, geotechnical, and wave analyses related to marine and coastal infrastructure.
  • Conduct site inspections, condition assessments, and field investigations of new construction and existing waterfront facilities.
  • Coordinate and support permitting efforts with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Develop project cost estimates, technical reports, and feasibility studies.
  • Utilize engineering software and CAD platforms to prepare project designs.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil engineers, surveyors, environmental scientists, and contractors.
  • Provide construction administration services including shop drawing review, RFIs, site observation, and project documentation.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and technical deliverables as assigned.
  • Comply with applicable engineering standards, environmental regulations, and safety requirements.
  • Support business development activities through proposal preparation and client engagement.
  • Mentor junior engineering staff and provide technical guidance as needed.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Travel between South Berwick, ME, Dover, NH and Alton, NH offices will be required.
  • Full-time presence required

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Coastal Engineering, or related engineering discipline. Design experience with timber, steel and reinforced concrete required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; EIT designation required if not yet licensed.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant waterfront, marine, coastal, or civil engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of coastal processes, marine structures, hydraulics, and shoreline protection systems.
  • Experience with New Hampshire and Maine permitting processes involving environmental and regulatory agencies.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, structural analysis software, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong technical writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
