A privately held, growth‑oriented Energy company, backed by institutional capital, is seeking a hands‑on Controller to lead day‑to‑day accounting operations and support continued expansion. This role serves as the senior accounting leader and partners closely with executive leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and scalable processes.

This is an operational Controller role — ideal for someone who enjoys being close to the work, mentoring a team, and improving systems and processes in a collaborative environment.

• Lead and oversee all core accounting functions including AP, AR, payroll coordination, cash management, and general ledger activity
• Own the full month‑end and quarter‑end close process, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
• Produce accurate and timely financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow) in accordance with GAAP
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
• Manage relationships with external accounting firms, auditors, and tax advisors
• Review tax filings prepared by third parties and coordinate required payments and filings
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis in partnership with senior leadership
• Prepare financial reporting for lenders, investors, and other stakeholders as required
• Monitor cash flow, bank activity, and compliance with debt covenants
• Oversee fixed asset accounting and ensure proper capitalization and depreciation
• Act as a people leader and mentor, developing a high‑performing accounting team
• Collaborate with IT and external vendors to ensure financial systems and reporting tools are functioning effectively

• Active CPA required
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting for private companies
• Proven experience owning the close process in a hands‑on environment
• Experience working with lenders, audits, and external stakeholders
• ERP experience (Net Suite, Intacct, or similar) and strong Excel skills
• Background in multi‑entity or growth‑oriented organizations preferred
• High integrity, strong attention to detail, and excellent communication skills
