Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    Associate’s degree or 60 credit hours from an accredited institute, with major study preferably in criminal justice, or equivalent.

    Two years comprised of any of:
  • One year as a full-time certified police officer and one year of honorable active duty military service.
  • Two years as a full-time certified police officer.

Responsibilities

Perform traffic enforcement, motor vehicle collision investigation, and patrol functions. Enforce federal and state commercial motor vehicle laws, conduct safety inspections, weigh trucks, and ensure proper permits.

Pursue fleeing subjects, arrest suspects, use restraints, subdue resisting suspects using maneuvers, weapons, and force as required. Intervene in disputes, mediate, advise on rights and processes.

Search people, vehicles, buildings, and outdoor areas to detect evidence and substances.

Foster relationships with NH State Agencies, education and community groups, nonprofits, and wraparound services to enhance law enforcement effectiveness and safety outcomes. Maintain presence and engagement with community resources to address citizen issues.

Assess situations independently, exercise discretion, apply knowledge to determine lawful detainment, probable cause, and appropriate use of force, including deadly force.

Gather information, conduct investigations, and inspections of criminal, motor vehicle, and regulatory laws by interviewing and obtaining statements from victims, witnesses, suspects, involved parties, and confidential informants.

Use information technology and investigative tools (NCIC, Mobile Records Management, CAD, Crash Record Management, ETicket, OTS) to access and record confidential information.

Read legal documents, conduct research, file motions, write investigative and administrative reports, including warrants, complaints, affidavits, sketches for court testimony.

Operate law enforcement vehicle during day and night including emergency situations; operate and maintain firearms and law enforcement equipment under stressful conditions.

Utilize emerging enforcement technologies and equipment (software, imaging, robotic systems, recognition plates, surveillance cameras, radar).

Present and prosecute cases in administrative and court proceedings at local, state, and federal levels. Offer testimony in judicial forums.

Provide rescue functions at accidents, emergencies, and disasters: direct traffic, administer emergency medical aid, evacuate people from danger.
