The State of New Hampshire, Department of Health and Human Services, and New Hampshire Hospital have a full‑time vacancy for Occupational Therapist II.

Summary

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for the coordination of O.T. programs on the adult unit. Performs professional, clinical, managerial, and supervisory duties to assure program meets the needs of individual patients and interfaces with unit program.

Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/

Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree and 1 year of experience OR equivalent combination of 5 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in Occupational Therapy and course of study must be approved by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation/American Medical Association in cooperation with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.

  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • License or temporary license as an Occupational Therapist issued by the NH Allied Health Professionals Governing Board for Occupational Therapy.
  • Certification by the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy.

Other Requirements:
Must be able to perform continuous strenuous activities such as frequent reaching, bending or lifting related to direct patient care, as well as performing work activities which require fine manual dexterity or coordination.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge and experience with the psychiatric population is preferred. Must possess basic computer skills to communicate via email, type documents and enter data into the electronic health record.

After‑Hire Requirements

Satisfactory completion of the specified written and physical components of the Mental Health Worker Training Program within the first five weeks of Employment at New Hampshire Hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Administers Initial Screening Assessments and Occupational Therapy Assessments by collecting, summarizing, and interpreting data to determine functioning level of patient.
  • Develops, implements and monitors individualized Occupational Therapy treatment programs to maximize patient functioning in social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and wellness areas. Interventions are carried out via individual and/or group programs. Completes other treatment duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Documents patient progress in the medical record; findings of assessment, treatment plan and progress are entered into medical records according to policy.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members, Rehabilitation Service disciplines and community agencies verbally and in writing, to ensure effective interdisciplinary patient services and continuation of services post discharge.
  • Develops and monitors implementation of comprehensive treatment programs to meet overall and individual patient goals and objectives.
