Primary Function
Under direction, Woodworker I will perform basic woodworking, finishing, furniture assembly and shipping tasks. Job knowledge and business need dictates progression into higher classifications and rate of pay.
Essential DutiesThe following are the essential job duties, but this job description does not preclude the performance of other duties as assigned by the supervisor:
- Sorts lumber, feeds and tails (removes) wood sections from wood cutting and forming machines, such as re-rip and gang-rip saws, etc. Feeds machines such as planers, etc.
- Operates simple woodworking machines such as single drill, band saw and edge sander. Uses knowledge of the basic working parts of the machines to determine if the machine is functioning properly and if not, notifies the lead-person or supervisor.
- Carries out finishing and assembly tasks. A few examples are; sealing/sanding, squaring and fitting drawer parts, furniture frame building and simple repair.
- Packages finished furniture and loads trailers for shipment.
- Measures and visually inspects parts for obvious defects. Notify Lead-person or supervisor of defective parts in a timely manner.
- Follow all applicable quality procedures.
- Must be able to read and comprehend and correctly complete all paperwork required with the job.
- Must follow all DCI, Inc. work policies and procedures including all safety requirements of the job.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
- Maintain a clean and orderly working environment
- Inform your supervisor about problems that occur.
- Possess the ability to work effectively with co-workers in a team environment.
Assorted furniture making hand tools and measuring devices. Some examples are; hand drill, screw guns, hammers, calipers, rulers, etc. and simple woodworking machines.

Special Skills and/or ExperienceNo previous work related experience is required for the Woodworker I position, however, knowledge and experience with measuring devices is desirable.
Physical Requirements /Work EnvironmentWoodworker I employees must possess the ability to stand and move for their required work period. It is an essential function of the tasks in this job to be able to bend, stretch, lift, twist, and reach with the body, arms and legs and have the ability to see details at close range. It is also essential to possess good coordination between hands, arms and legs etc, to safely feed, tail and operate machines and woodworking equipment.
The production work environment is well within the acceptable range for dirt, dust, noise, etc. that occurs in the manufacturing of furniture. Where required, protective personal equipment is provided.
