Position Summary

The CNC Machinist
- Lathe is responsible for the setup, operation, programming, troubleshooting, and inspection of components manufactured on CNC lathes. This position requires strong machining knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to independently troubleshoot machining and setup issues.

The CNC Machinist will work closely with Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality to ensure parts are produced safely, efficiently, and in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC lathes to manufacture precision components.

  • Develop, edit, and maintain CNC programs as required using CAD/CAM software such as Cam Works, Mastercam, or similar.

  • Set up and prove out new or revised programs to ensure accuracy, repeatability, and efficient production.

  • Select appropriate tooling, inserts, work holding, cutting parameters, feeds, and speeds based on material and part geometry.

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and GD&T.

  • Perform in-process and first-piece inspections using appropriate measuring equipment.

  • Make machine offsets and program adjustments as necessary to maintain dimensional requirements.

  • Identify and troubleshoot machining, tooling, setup, and quality issues.

  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality to resolve production and manufacturability issues.

  • Maintain accurate documentation, including CNC programs, tooling information, and setup sheets.

  • Assist with fixture and work holding selection or improvements to increase machining efficiency and repeatability.

  • Monitor tooling condition and replace or adjust tooling as necessary.

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, efficiency, and reducing scrap.

  • Move materials and components as needed to support production.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.

  • Follow all company safety procedures, work instructions, and quality requirements.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support manufacturing operations.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • 3-5 years of CNC lathe setup, operation, programming, and troubleshooting experience.

  • Proficiency with FANUC CNC controls.

  • Experience with CAD/CAM software such as Cam Works, Mastercam, or equivalent.

  • Strong understanding of GD&T and the ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.

  • Experience using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other inspection tools.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and machining troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to independently set up and operate CNC lathe equipment.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented manufacturing environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precision components.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with multi-axis CNC lathes and/or mill-turn equipment.

  • Experience with 4- or 5-axis CNC machining.

  • Experience with DNC software and post-processing tools.

  • Ability to program and operate CNC mills in addition to lathes.
