Reports to: Charge Nurse on assigned shift
Job OverviewUnder the supervision and direction of the nursing staff, responsible for providing medication administration and personal care to residents.
Description ofDuties & Responsibilities
- Administer medications to stable residents via approved routes per the specification direction (drug, dosage, route, and frequency) of the nursing staff. Advise the nursing staff of any resident who may appear unstable.
- Screen residents for pain using the facility protocols of the utilization of the numerical 0-10 index, the Wong Baker faces, or the Modified Abbey Scale.
- Count and administer controlled substances under the supervision of the nursing staff.
- Adhere to Standard Precautions, including application of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), handwashing, and wearing of gloves as appropriate.
- Keep informed of, and adhere to, all MVNH policies and procedures.
- Serve as positive role models for the peers, through demonstration of professional actions and attitude, display of respect to all, promotion of resident optimal independence and activity levels, and through maintenance of privacy and confidentiality of all private healthcare information obtained at MVC.
- Communicate effectively with members of the nursing staff through participation in the intershift report (15 minutes before the start of the shift), relay observations of medication administration and effectiveness, and conveyance of all pertinent information obtained by the MNA.
- Maintain medication cart cleanliness, replenish supplies, and inform the Charge Nurse of supply and equipment needs.
- Maintain the flexibility to work as required to meet the needs of the residents within the facility.
- Ability to push or pull equipment and/or residents
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to transfer residents
- Ability to sit, stand, bend at the waist, and spend considerable time moving
- Possess manual dexterity to provide necessary care
- Possess hearing and vision adequate to carry out duties
- Ability to understand diverse personalities and respond with patience and caring
- Must possess a valid NH MNA license.
- Must have worked as an LNA 40 hours per week for the previous 2 years, or part-time over the past 5 years with an equivalent of 4,160 hours of LNA work.
- MNAs must attend educational programming relative to the MNA status, as well as acquire the mandatory 12 contact hours of education each year.
- Exposed daily to possible injury from heavy physical exertion while providing resident care.
- Exposed to heat, humidity, body fluids, and odors.
- May be subject to hostile and/or emotionally upset residents, family, or staff
