Your Role
  • Conduct a productive experimental program.
  • Coordinate scientific plans, results, and resources effectively between multiple projects.
  • Communicate results and issues within the projects and the organization effectively.
  • Lead team efforts and provide substantial intellectual contributions to the problems assigned.
Your Profile
  • Apply research knowledge to plan and manage complex and/or multiple project(s)/program(s).
  • Develop strategies that guide project(s)/program(s).
  • Propose new initiatives or policies.
  • Assist and lead direct reports and team members in problem-solving and new methodology.
  • Leadership in problem-solving may extend beyond team or other scientists and other labs.
  • May serve as a technical consultant to global project teams.
  • Work on unusually complex technical problems and provide solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious.
  • Implement work plans; conduct performance reviews and participate in the disciplinary and grievance process, as needed.
  • Ensure employees have access to tools and information for career development opportunities and actively participate in employee growth and development.
  • Plan and deliver on‑job training.
  • Assignments are often self‑initiated.
  • Consult and/or make recommendations in the area of research or program policy through effective verbal and written communication about the research project(s)/program(s).
  • Co‑author or author manuscripts, publications, reports or experimental protocols; serve as primary presenter or author.
  • Collaborate in the conception and design of original research.
  • Write grants, contracts and/or proposals.
  • Establish goals and objectives of the project(s)/program(s), set and change deadlines.
  • Plan, assign and analyze work of others.
  • Prepare and manage grants and/or contracts.
  • Lead multi‑faced research project(s)/programs.
  • Direct others in making modifications.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position does have supervisory responsibilities.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or chemical engineering:
    Minimum 14‑19 years’ relevant experience.
  • Master's degree in chemistry or chemical engineering:
    Minimum 12‑17 years’ relevant experience.
  • Ph.D. in a relevant or related field:
    Minimum 8‑14 years’ relevant experience.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to solve problems and develop new methodology.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel; talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
