Position Overview
Location:
Manchester, New Hampshire. This position is a 3rd‑shift Public Safety Officer for Southern New Hampshire University’s campus in Manchester, New Hampshire. The officer provides comprehensive safety and security services to the traditional residential campus and remote properties. Responsibilities include active foot, bicycle and vehicle patrols, responding to calls for service such as escorts, motor vehicle assistance, medical emergencies and behavioral or mental health concerns, conducting preliminary investigations as needed, managing traffic flow, enforcing parking regulations, supporting special events, and collaborating with local law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical personnel.
Schedule
January – June:
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 9:30pm – 8:00am. July – December:
Saturday 7:30am – 6pm;
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday 9:30pm – 8:00am. Includes weekend and holiday hours. Mandatory overtime on several weekends per year.
- Patrol campus and remote properties.
- Take appropriate action according to university guidelines and policies.
- Assist victims of crimes with filing police complaints.
- Respond to and investigate assault incidents, including sexual and aggravated assaults.
- De‑escalate situations in which victims or accused are in emotional distress or agitated.
- Implement strategies to reduce safety hazards and eliminate opportunities for crime, disorder and violations of the Student or Employee Handbook.
- Conduct preliminary investigations and submit complete, legible, and accurate reports promptly.
- Provide escorts, monitor security cameras, assist visitors and manage access control.
- Enforce traffic and parking regulations; direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic; issue parking tickets; arrange towing if necessary.
- Assist university officials, law‑enforcement agencies, fire and other public‑safety officials in maintaining law, order and public safety.
- Serve as the first responder to criminal incidents, fires, medical emergencies, chemical spills, natural disasters and other emergencies on campus.
- Perform fire‑prevention and general‑safety duties such as inspecting fire‑safety equipment and conducting fire drills.
- Act as officer in charge in the absence of a shift supervisor and oversee daily operations.
- Understand compliance points regarding Title
IX and the Clery Act. - Issue SNHU Alerts in the event of an emergency.
- Complete a daily shift report to management upon shift completion.
- Work in all‑weather conditions; stand and sit for extended periods; walk and climb stairs; lift up to 50lbs.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Two or more years of related experience.
- Eligible to work in the United States and be 21 years of age or older.
- Valid New Hampshire driver’s license with good driving record.
- No criminal record or convictions for misdemeanors or felonies.
- Ability to perform essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Maintain certification in emergency response, automated external defibrillator, CPR, Narcan, First Aid, and Stop the Bleed.
- Willing to train if needed.
Hourly pay range: $17.45 – $27.92. Target hiring range: $19.28 – $26.08. Actual offer will depend on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity.
