Building Maintenance, Maintenance Worker
The City of Dover is seeking a responsible individual to become part of the Streets Division, to perform unskilled and semi‑skilled work in the construction and maintenance of water, waste water and street projects.
This is a full‑time, 40‑hour per week position. Compensation is $22.73 to $32.84 per hour, and the successful candidate will be eligible for full‑time benefit offerings. The position remains open until filled.
Duties and Responsibilities- Perform required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and back filling, raising old manhole covers and catch basins to road level for street reconstruction.
- Install, repair, maintain, tap, clean and flush water mains, pipe, gates and fittings, and meters on mains and services and installation of services, fire hydrants and drinking fountains; assist in shutting off broken sections of water mains.
- Connect residential and industrial service to existing mains.
- Respond to complaints regarding water leaks, pressure loss or no water, evaluate situation, and explain findings to supervisor.
- Ensure the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.
- Operate trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of equipment, tools and materials.
- Assist in operation of jet truck, camera truck and other light and medium‑sized construction and power equipment.
- Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or needed repairs to supervisor; clean equipment.
- Perform maintenance of buildings and grounds as needed.
- Repack, repair and rebuild pumps at plant and lift stations as needed.
- Pump sludge de‑watering; remove grit from grit channel; collect water samples and assist in lab work as assigned.
- Complete and maintain records and reports as required.
- Perform snow removal and sanding activities, assist in mitigating natural and man‑made emergencies as needed.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and agencies, and the general public.
- Maintain familiarity with and execute safe work procedures associated with assigned work.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Some knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in public works and utility construction, maintenance and repair activities. Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time and in adverse conditions. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the general public. Ability to work under adverse conditions.
Education,License, Certification Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent. Two years experience in construction or building, OR any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must maintain complete certification for NE Collection Systems Operator Certificate Grade II and Road Scholar II Certification. Must maintain valid New Hampshire CDL-B with Air Brake Endorsement and Tanker Endorsement, CDL-A with endorsements preferred.
