Hazardous Duty Pay: $60 biweekly (not included in salary)
Schedule:
6:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. with Saturdays and Sundays off
SUMMARY
Supervises and performs the technical maintenance, repair, installation, and calibration of HVAC and related equipment in a prison environment, working in close and immediate contact with prisoners on a daily basis and responsible for security.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS – Each additional year of approved formal education may substitute one year of required work experience and vice versa.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Equivalently 5 years of education and experience after high school, focused on the operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment used in buildings, with at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
LICENSE & CERTIFICATION
- Valid driver’s license or access to transportation for statewide travel.
- State of NH Gas Fitters license.
Must pass security and background screening required for correctional environments.
TRAINEE OPTION – Candidates with 4+ years of relevant education and experience, including at least 1 year of supervisory experience, may be considered for trainee status and hired accordingly.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS – None.
AFTER‑HIRE REQUIREMENTS
- Successful completion of the Corrections Academy within 12 months of hire and continuing certification as correctional line personnel.
- HVAC refrigerant certification within 12 months of hire.
- Availability for on‑call through a rotating schedule for off‑hour coverage.
- Willingness to work an extended and/or flexible schedule, including nights and weekends for emergency response.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide security, supervision, and training for inmate workers.
- Supervise, schedule, train and assist subordinate staff to ensure continuous maintenance and repairs of equipment.
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain HVAC systems and related equipment.
- Maintain knowledge of large industrial chillers and cooling towers, including operation, testing, chemical treatment, cleaning, and maintenance.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC systems and controls, electrical, pneumatic, electronic, sensors, transmitters, and relay failures.
- Respond to emergencies using good judgment and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local codes and ACA standards.
- Order materials and supplies and maintain inventory of needed parts.
- Calibrate and adjust hydraulic, pneumatic, electric, and electronic controls and motors.
- Maintain records, logs on HVAC equipment and procure specifications for competitive bidding.
