At Waypoint's Transitional Living Program (TLP), we provide young adults ages 18-21 with safe housing, support, and life skills as they navigate the transition into adulthood. As a Volunteer Live-In House Mentor, you'll play a meaningful role in creating a stable, welcoming, and supportive home environment where young people can grow, learn, and thrive.

About the OpportunityWaypoint is seeking a Volunteer Live-In House Mentor for our Transitional Living Program in Dover, New Hampshire.
In exchange for providing approximately 10-12 hours of mentorship and support each week, House Mentors receive a private rent‑free room within the residence. This opportunity is ideal for graduate students, emerging professionals, educators, human services professionals, or community members who are passionate about supporting young adults as they build independence and confidence.
As a House Mentor, you'll serve as a positive role model, trusted adult, and community builder. You'll help foster a safe, respectful, and supportive living environment while encouraging personal responsibility, healthy communication, and positive life skills.
You'll be supported by the TLP Manager and Care Coordinator and become part of a team dedicated to helping young adults successfully transition into adulthood.
What You’ll DoBuild Relationships and Foster Community- Develop positive and supportive relationships with residents through authentic engagement and mentorship.
- Spend intentional time in shared community spaces to promote connection, trust, and a sense of belonging.
- Maintain a positive, strengths‑based perspective on young people and their potential for growth.
- Support a welcoming, inclusive, and affirming environment for all residents.
- Provide guidance, encouragement, and informal coaching around life skills and personal responsibility.
- Conduct weekly room and chore checks and provide constructive feedback.
- Help residents develop healthy routines, communication skills, and problem‑solving strategies.
- Support a substance‑free and alcohol‑free living environment.
- Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating healthy boundaries, respectful communication, and responsible decision‑making.
- Assist with roommate mediation and conflict resolution when appropriate.
- Collaborate with program staff to address concerns and support resident success.
- Communicate important updates and concerns to the TLP Manager and Care Coordinator.
- Attend House Mentor meetings and TLP team meetings throughout the year.
- Participate in training and ongoing learning opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with program staff to support house operations and resident needs.
- Help organize occasional pro‑social activities and community‑building events based on resident interests and feedback.
