Highway Maintainer III – Department of Mechanical Services, New Hampshire DOT

Location:

33 Smokey Bear Boulevard, Concord, NH. Full‑time. Salary: $17.81/hour – $23.39/hour.

• Operate and maintain tractor trailer units for transportation of equipment such as backhoes, motor graders, rollers or similar.
• Operate NHDOT fleet equipment to load onto trailers and/or ramp trucks.
• Rig and secure equipment during transport to ensure proper load positioning and minimize shifting.
• Supervise unit operation in the absence of the supervisor and provide continuous transporting and related services.
• Rig, upright and retrieve errant heavy equipment to minimize damage and prepare for transport.
• Inspect, maintain and adjust assigned equipment daily and perform field repairs as necessary to ensure efficient and reliable operation.
• Work from generalized work schedules, adjusting for weather changes to provide timely delivery and maximum utilisation.
• Operate bucket loaders and other equipment for snow removal on a 24‑hour, 7‑day per week basis.
• Cross‑train and/or operate other specialised equipment including department yard cranes and forklifts as required.
• Perform work in full conformance with all risk‑management, safety and environmental standards, regulations and administrative orders.

• Equivalent combination of 2 years of post‑secondary education and experience after high‑school, including experience operating motorised highway equipment.
• Valid Commercial Driver's Licence, Class A (CDL‑A) with appropriate tank endorsement and without a pintle restriction.
• Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that meets the Department of Transportation minimum standards.
• Conditional employment offer requires a Commercial Driver’s Licence medical card unless the candidate is currently a State employee.
• Negative pre‑employment urinalysis drug screen result in accordance with Federal Regulations and US DOT requirements.
• Ability to lift or carry material weighing up to 50 lbs. on an intermittent basis.
• Possession of a telephone or acceptable means of communication and availability 24 hours per day.
