Leave Replacement History Teacher Dover High School
Dover High School is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Leave Replacement History Teacher to provide instruction in U.S. History I, U.S. History II, and AP U.S. History. The successful candidate will create an engaging, inclusive, and academically rigorous classroom environment that promotes historical thinking, critical analysis, civic understanding, and effective communication. The teacher will follow district curriculum and instructional expectations while maintaining continuity of instruction for students throughout the leave replacement assignment.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging instruction aligned with Dover High School curriculum, New Jersey Student Learning Standards, and applicable AP U.S. History expectations.
- Teach courses that may include U.S. History I, U.S. History II, and AP U.S. History.
- Develop lessons that promote critical thinking, historical analysis, evidence-based reasoning, discussion, and writing.
- Use primary and secondary sources, historical documents, data, maps, media, and other instructional resources to support student learning.
- Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Assess student understanding through formative and summative assessments and use results to inform instruction.
- Maintain accurate grades, attendance, lesson plans, and other required records.
- Prepare students for AP U.S. History assessments through appropriate content review, historical thinking skills, document-based questions, and evidence-based writing.
- Collaborate with department colleagues, supervisor, counselors, special education staff, and other members of the school community to support student success.
- Participate in required faculty, department, professional development, and school meetings.
Qualifications:
- New Jersey Teacher Certification in Social Studies or appropriate eligibility for certification.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. History and the ability to teach across multiple levels of the high school history curriculum.
- Experience or demonstrated ability to teach AP U.S. History preferred.
- Strong classroom management, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
