Responsibilities

Howmet Aerospace is currently looking for a Level III Trainee (XRAY) to join Howmet Casting located in Dover, New Jersey. The work hours for this position are on a day shift.

Anticipated Pay Range: $28–$35 per hour.
* Pay rates within this range are determined based on experience, education, certifications, and other factors.

Position Overview

The Level III Trainee position ensures the availability of trained personnel for the primary Level III role. If the primary Level III departs, the trainee must be positioned to assume that role. The trainee will complete a training plan to bridge the gap to Secondary Level III certification, as required to pass the company's Level III examination. After certification, the trainee will continue to work a split shift of Level III tasks and production duties, gaining experience as part of succession planning.

This position will be expected to work overtime as required to meet customer and production needs.

Environmental Health & Safety Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing Howmet EHS values and related policies.
  • Comply with all Department, Facility, Corporate, and Regulatory EHS regulations.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment.
  • Report all job‑related illnesses and injuries per the employee handbook.
  • Report all safety, health, and environmental concerns to a supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Attend all required EHS training.

Essential Job Functions

Job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate and assist in internal, external, and customer audits.
  • Assist in training and monitoring proficiency of Level I and Level II NDT inspectors (OJT and technical).
  • Assist in performing L1 and L2 audits for product conformity and process comprehension.
  • Ensure NDT processes and inspections meet product criteria.
  • Perform daily systems checks of the department.
  • Monitor equipment availability and maintain equipment, fixtures, and tools.
  • Under guidance of the primary Level III, develop and maintain procedures to ensure adherence to industry and customer requirements.
  • Maintain required documentation and records for specific methods.
  • Interpret specifications and blueprints under guidance of the primary Level III.
  • Complete Secondary Level III training per plan developed by Quality Manager and Level III.
  • Perform tasks assigned by the Level III and/or Quality Manager.
  • Support manufacturing as needed with L1 and L2 duties.

Other Job Responsibilities

  • Design and approve techniques.
  • Perform required calibrations and system checks.
  • Help with Level I and Level II work standards.
  • Assist in projects to improve the work area.
  • Help prioritize and coordinate product workflow through NDT inspections.
  • Check process documentation for proper technique.
  • Interface with Level III for technical guidance on manufacturing NDT issues.
  • Perform L1 and L2 duties as needed.
  • Assist in introducing new technology within the NDT method.
  • Lead R&R studies as necessary.

Interpersonal Responsibilities

Frequent interaction with engineering, manufacturing, customers, BU‑level employees, external auditors, and suppliers.

Qualifications

Core Qualifications

  • High‑school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Must be able to pass Level III NDT testing requirements.
  • No supervisory responsibilities.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends with little advanced notice.
  • Access to export‑controlled items is required; applicants must be able to lawfully obtain access.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship not available.
  • Candidate must reside within 50 miles of Dover, NJ; no relocation benefit offered.
  • Experience in specific NDT methods is required.

Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of specific technical NDT applications.
  • Ability to read, understand, and train using Activity Instructions in accordance with standard procedures.
