Role OverviewThis person is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC waterjet cutting systems and industrial bandsaws to produce high-quality parts from various materials (metals, plastics, composites). The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, can read blueprints with ease, and maintains a "safety-first" mindset. They will assist with the operation of equipment, tooling maintenance, and will ensure that all required processes are completed to produce parts.
This position is located at Picatinny Arsenal.
- Machine Operation:
Set up and operate CNC waterjet machines and horizontal/vertical bandsaws. - Material Handling:
Load and unload raw materials (plates, bars, tubes) using forklifts or overhead cranes. - Programming & Adjustments:
Select appropriate cutting parameters, load CNC programs, and make minor offset adjustments to ensure part accuracy. - Quality Control:
Perform first‑article inspections using calipers, micrometers, and gauges to ensure parts meet blueprint specifications. - Maintenance:
Perform routine daily maintenance (e.g., nozzle changes, garnet refills, blade tensioning) and keep the workspace clean. - Documentation:
Track material usage and log completed jobs in the shop management system. - Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
- Maintain a clean work area and ensure safe operations of all equipment.
- Must be able to obtain a clearance through the DoD security background investigation process.
- Pass drug and alcohol testing.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- 1–3 years of experience operating CNC machinery (waterjet experience preferred; OMAX, Flow, etc. are a plus).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Proficient in basic shop math and understanding of tolerances.
- Physical stamina to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong attendance record and a proactive attitude toward problem‑solving.
- Team player, able to multitask and prioritize accordingly.
- Basic PC knowledge (MS Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a government driver’s license.
- High school diploma required; a college degree is not required but beneficial.
