Job Overview
Metal Utility Operator at Howmet Casting, Dover, New Jersey.
Shift: Midnight Shift – Sunday night to Thursday night, 10:30 PM–6:30 AM. Training on first shift Monday–Friday 6:30 AM–2:30 PM.
Compensation and BenefitsHourly rate: $25.00 (new hires); $27.71 after 12 months. Shift premium for off‑shift work. Benefits include health, dental, vision, 401 K match, life insurance, short‑term disability, performance bonus, paid time off, wellness program, EAP, discounted local gym membership.
Responsibilities- Perform 100% visual inspection of castings per job instructions and pass a written visual test.
- Execute belting, stoning, buffing operations to remove visual and FPI imperfections.
- Conduct spot FPI tests to confirm defect removal.
- Maintain visual integrity and gauge of pitch, chord width and trailing‑edge thickness.
- Dimensionally inspect and repair castings via hammering, arboring, twisting, belting, buffing, drilling.
- Work and communicate effectively with team members to meet customer expectations.
- Maintain records and a clean, orderly, safe work area.
- Follow all applicable safety rules and work safely at all times.
- Verify calibration stickers and ensure routers are correct before work.
- Ensure electronic gauge operation as required.
- Read and understand finishing visual instructions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervision.
- Operate electronic gauge as required.
- Assist in implementation of EHS values and policies.
- Comply with all department, facility, corporate and regulatory EHS regulations.
- Wear required personal protective equipment.
- Report job‑related illnesses and injuries per Employee Handbook.
- Report safety, health and environmental concerns promptly.
- Attend all EHS training.
Basic:
- Legally authorized to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship.
- Position involves export‑controlled items; must be able to obtain access.
- No relocation benefit; candidates must reside within 50 miles of Dover, NJ.
- High school diploma or GED.
Preferred:
- Good visual accuracy and strong hand‑eye coordination.
- Frequent sitting and/or standing, weather‑dependent temperatures in a manufacturing environment.
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Use of gauges, hand guns, belt machines and other measurement/finishing tools.
