Position Title

Maintenance Mechanic

Job Summary

Performs routine to moderately complex plant and maintenance tasks to assure proper maintenance of campus buildings. Requires an Essential Employee Verification Card. Daily building checks, minor plumbing fixes, painting, preventive maintenance, light bulb and fixture replacement, masonry work, lock installation, key cutting, minor construction projects, and other duties such as snow removal, cleaning, moving furniture, and dispensing gasoline.

Responsibilities

Inspects lights, doors, restrooms, classrooms, offices, and corridors at shift start. Reports problems to the Maintenance Systems Coordinator. Repairs plumbing issues such as toilets, sinks, waste lines, water service lines, shutoff valves, sewer lines, traps, and faucets. Sweats copper fittings with a plumber’s torch. Paints interior and exterior surfaces, prepping by spackling, sanding, and priming. Executes preventive maintenance work orders generated by the computerized system.

Replaces light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and ceiling tiles in classrooms, offices, corridors, restrooms, lounge areas, cafeteria, gymnasium, and other spaces. Performs masonry repairs, including painting and caulking. Installs, adjusts, or repairs locks; cuts new keys, rekeys locks; installs crash bar assemblies. Carries out minor construction projects modifying walls, doors, partitions, and ceilings. Performs additional duties such as snow removal, cleaning entrances, moving furniture, and dispensing gasoline.

Qualifications

Education

High school diploma or equivalency preferred.

Experience

Minimum 2 years experience in building maintenance. Must be able to use power tools such as table saw, drills, belt sander, circular saw, and others.

Skills

Prolonged standing, bending, stooping, reaching; full range of physical motion to operate tools; balance required for scaffolding and roofs; ability to work in various environments and weather, with exposure to dust, fumes, and chemicals; climb stepladders and roof access ladders; regularly lift and carry 50 pounds.
