Description

The Parent Educator delivers the Parents as Teachers (PAT) evidence-based home visiting model to support families in promoting optimal child development and school readiness. This role involves conducting regular home visits, developmental screenings, and parent-child activities while building strong, trusting relationships with families. The Parent Educator collaborates with community partners, maintains accurate documentation, and uses the PAT curriculum to empower caregivers through education, goal setting, and resource connection.

The position supports the nonprofit's mission to strengthen families and foster positive outcomes for children from birth to kindergarten.

Essential Functions
  • Maintain regular and long-term relationship with client family and establish a trusting relationship
  • Conduct home visits to provide parent education, developmental guidance, and support, focusing on parent-child interaction
  • Assist parents in improving skills to optimize home environment, improve parenting practices, and strengthen the parent-child relationship
  • Administer screenings to assess the normal growth and development of the target child
  • Increase the family's self-sufficiency by assisting them in improving their ability to problem-solve and assume the role of advocating for themselves and their children
  • Assist family in establishing goals and plan for the accomplishment of those goals
  • Identify and refer family to other supportive agencies when appropriate and needed, including healthcare appointments
  • Teach basic health and life skills, such as prenatal care, immunizations, budgeting, etc., and ensure appropriate utilization of needed health and social services
  • Report immediately to the Program Supervisor any and all suspicion of incidents of child maltreatment and other issues related to worker and/or child/family health and safety (mental health, substance abuse, and domestic violence)
  • Exercise sound judgment and timing in situations related to obligation as a mandatory reporter of suspicion of child endangerment and maltreatment
  • Plan, facilitate, and coordinate group meetings and workshops on child development, parenting strategies, and family wellness
  • Maintain client charts and records and comply with monthly, quarterly, and annual program reporting
  • Attend ongoing training sessions and meetings

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required, Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Two years of experience in working with children (0-5 years of age) and families required
  • Bilingual Fluency in English and Spanish required
  • Knowledge of normal child growth/development and parent-child relationships required
  • Knowledgeable about community resources in Warren County required
  • Ability to relate to families from a strength-based model and approach families from a family-centered service model
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

Salary Description
