Role and Responsibilities
This position hiring is contingent on the receipt of grant funding.
The mosquito control technician assists in the operation of the Tuscarawas County Mosquito Control Program and must display initiative and follow through in completing tasks; be reliable, mature, and adaptable; relate successfully with the community and co-workers regardless of their social, ethnic, or religious status; comply with agency objectives, philosophy, and policies. The majority of this work occurs in an outdoor setting.
Experienceand Education Requirements
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Ability to drive a full-size pickup truck. Basic map-reading skills. Ability to read and understand written instructions, to add and subtract whole numbers. Ability to understand the safe handling of pesticides and keep accurate records. Must have an understanding of basic biology or science, and you must be capable of responding to questions or concerns from the general public.
Preferred
College or university science/health majors preferred, or a teacher/educator or retiree with a strong science background preferred. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access).
- Must possess a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license and remain insurable in accordance with the district’s vehicle insurance policy.
- Must sign and abide by the agency’s nicotine-free hiring policy.
- Must successfully pass drug screen and background check.

Working ConditionsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee typically works in an outdoor environment.
Vision abilities required are up close vision and the ability to adjust and focus.
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Employees in this classification may occasionally need to relate to members of the public who exhibit challenging, atypical or hostile behaviors and/or communication.
