Accounts Payable Clerk

Description

We are looking for an Accounts Payable Clerk to join a transport organization in Downers Grove, Illinois in a contract position with the potential to become permanent. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, responsive, and comfortable managing invoice activity in a fast-paced environment. The person in this position will support timely payment processing, maintain accurate vendor records, and work closely with internal teams and external partners to address billing questions and exceptions.

Responsibilities:

- Process and review approved invoices to ensure payments are issued accurately and within established timelines.

- Investigate stalled or unresolved invoices, determine next steps, and coordinate payment or return actions as appropriate.

- Examine motor carrier billing documents for accuracy before submitting them for payment.

- Identify, document, and resolve payable exceptions while keeping records complete and up to date.

- Organize and maintain vendor and invoice files to support accurate recordkeeping and easy retrieval.

- Review reports for completeness and correctness, addressing discrepancies before final processing.

- Communicate with vendors and internal departments to resolve billing differences and respond to payment status questions.

- Provide support for additional accounting tasks, special assignments, and team priorities while following company policies and safety expectations.

The hourly pay range for this position is $21 to $24/hour. Benefits available to contract/temporary professionals, include medical, vision, dental, and life and disability insurance. Requirements - High school diploma or equivalent required.

- Postsecondary coursework, technical training, or comparable hands-on experience in accounting support or a related area preferred.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word.

- Ability to type at least 30 words per minute and use 10-key data entry efficiently.

- Experience handling accounts payable activities such as invoice entry, coding, reconciliation, and discrepancy resolution.

- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments and maintain accuracy during high-volume periods.

- Effective communication and customer service skills when working with vendors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.

- Adaptability and attention to detail, including the ability to learn transportation-related processes and enter transactional data accurately in computerized systems.
