Program Overview

Reaching Independence through Structured Education Program, RISE offers an educational experience customized to support students with developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder and/or related characteristics. This program supports students with language, social, regulation and academic needs.

• Carry out the teacher's plan for instruction for individual students and/or group work.
• Alert the teacher to any problems or information about an individual student.
• Implement strategies designed and assigned by teachers to meet individual differences.
• Prepare materials for individual/group sessions under the guidance of the classroom teacher.
• Work with individuals/small groups in review, reinforcement, enrichment, and/or expansion of skills and concepts presented.
• Support teachers with the implementation of interventions, accommodations, and modifications to aid students' academic, social, and emotional success.
• Supervise learning groups with the teacher's direction.
• Communicate with the teacher(s) regarding students' progress, interest levels, or problem areas.
• Review assignments with students, monitor testing and makeup work, and organize classwork and homework relevant to the specific students.
• Interact positively with students, taking into account individual differences and needs.
• Use confidential and personal information concerning students for professional purposes only, in accordance with District regulations.
• Assume responsibilities outside the classroom area related to supervision of students in the school surroundings.
• Assist students with self‑help, personal care skills, and health needs as necessary.
• Assist the teacher in maintaining classroom discipline and support classroom management as directed by the teacher.
• Work with various forms of media, including technology, as necessary within the job area.
• Participate in planned training sessions or in‑service meetings as requested by the principal or teacher.
• Perform other assigned tasks essential to the specific position as requested by the administration.

• Hours:
  
  K‑6, Monday 8:00 am–2:15 pm;
  Tuesday‑Friday 8:00 am–3:15 pm
• Wages: $18.06 / hr
• Annual stipend: $2,000 (prorated based upon start date)
• All Instructional Assistant employees are employed under the Downers Grove Educational Support Personnel (DGESP) contract. Compensation and benefits can be viewed beginning on page 30.
