Instructional Assistant

The Developmental Learning Program (DLP) is a highly individualized special education program designed to meet the intensive needs of students with known or suspected intellectual disabilities, often combined with other intensive needs in communication, independence, adaptive/functional skills, behavioral manifestations, and/or social skills.

• Carry out the teacher's plan for instruction for individual students and/or group work.
• Alert the teacher to any problems or information about an individual student.
• Implement strategies designed and assigned by teachers to meet individual differences.
• Prepare materials for individual/group sessions under the guidance of the classroom teacher.
• Work with individuals or small groups in review, reinforcement, enrichment, or expansion of skills and concepts presented.
• Support teacher(s) with the implementation of interventions, accommodations, and modifications to support students' academic, social, and emotional success.
• Supervise learning groups with teacher's direction.
• Communicate with the teacher(s) regarding children's progress, interest levels, or problem areas.
• Review assignments with students, monitor testing and makeup work, and organize classwork and homework relevant to the specific students.
• Interact positively with students, taking into account individual differences and student needs.
• Use confidential and personal information concerning students for professional purposes only, in accordance with District regulations.
• Assume responsibilities outside the classroom area related to supervision of students in the school surroundings.
• Assist students with self-help, personal care skills, and health needs as necessary.
• Assist teacher in maintaining classroom discipline and support classroom management as directed by the teacher.
• Work with various forms of media, including technology, as necessary within the job area.
• Participate in planned training sessions or in-service meetings as requested by the principal or teacher.
• Perform other assigned tasks essential to the specific position as requested by the administration.

Must have a Valid Para-Professional license or Professional Educator's License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.

Monday 8:00 am‑2:15 pm;
Tuesday‑Friday 8:00 am‑3:15 pm. Professional Learning and Collaboration hours are dictated by contract.

Wages: $18.06 per hour. Annual stipend: $2,000 (prorated based on start date and FTE).
