Assistant Principal at Herrick Middle School (6th-8th)

Qualifications

Professional Educator License as required by the State of Illinois and Principal Endorsement (formerly General Administrative or Type 75 endorsement).

Minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience in a K-8 setting preferred.

Assistanat Principal Responsibilities Management Skills
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and secure environment.
  • Developing and monitoring a building budget in accordance with District guidelines.
  • Maintains and submitting records and reports that are accurate and on time.
  • Uses strategies and systems to manage conflict.
  • Follows Board policies and legal requirements and communicates these to staff, students, and school community.
  • Allocates time to address priorities.
  • Utilizes the physical facilities efficiently.
Leadership
  • Employs a leadership style which is appropriate for the situation; delegating and encouraging self-direction when appropriate.
  • Employs methods which foster a non-threatening environment conducive to openness and cooperation and which invites participation in the decision-making process when appropriate.
  • Utilizes various approaches to build and maintain morale.
  • Raises and/or allowing questions which help others to consider consequences.
  • Develops and implements strategies to evaluate programs and make changes as needed.
  • Demonstrates a leadership role on district committees and at district meetings and contributes to the collaborative process.
  • Follows a plan of supervision and evaluation for all personnel for which he/she has supervisory responsibility.
  • Develops a staff organizational plan which is consistent with District policies for class size and teacher aide allocation.
  • Works cooperatively with the personnel office in the selection, transfer, retention, or dismissal of district employees.
  • Provides support and assistance for all staff both personally and professionally.
  • Provides appropriate orientation for new staff members.
  • Implements a staff development plan which provides activities to assist staff in accomplishing district's/school's objectives.
Instructional Skills
  • Monitors teachers' planning for effective instruction and ensuring implementation of adopted curriculum through scheduled observation and monitoring of classroom instruction and other methods of data gathering.
  • Utilizes clinical supervision strategies for providing feedback to staff on observed instruction.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and provides help for the solution of specific instructional problems.
  • Employs strategies designed to protect learning time.
  • Assists staff in monitoring student progress in achieving curricular objectives.
  • Utilizes support staff where appropriate.
  • Supervises and monitors programs for exceptional children.
  • Establishes and communicates high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
School-Community Relations Skills
  • Involves parents and community members in school and/or district programs.
  • Ensures that parents are provided with information of the child's progress.
  • Supports PTA/PTO by being an active participant.
  • Recognizes outstanding performance by students and staff.
  • Fosters good communications with and between parents, teachers, and students.
Professional Growth
  • Maintains an involvement in professional associations and their activities.
  • Participates in inservice workshops, committees, and/or college courses to upgrade professional skills.
Goal and Objective Development
  • Define, implement, and evaluate district and building goals and objectives.
Team Building Skills
  • Performs all other tasks that are assigned by the Administrative Assistants and/or the Superintendent.
  • Exhibits a willingness to contribute and implement ideas for the betterment of the District.
