INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT SPECIAL PROGRAMS (RISE/DLP) - for both Herrick and O'Neill Middle Schools

The BEST program uses a team approach to serve students with disabilities whose social, emotional and behavioral needs significantly impede their ability to access curriculum exclusively in the general education environment. Programming can include multi-grade grouping and can range from a full self-contained environment to the use of consultative services only.

The RISE program offers an educational experience customized to support students with developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder and/or related characteristics. This program supports students with language, social, regulation and academic needs.

• Carries out teacher's plan for instruction for individual students and/or group work.
• Alerts teacher to any problems or information about an individual student.
• Implements strategies designed and assigned by teachers to meet individual differences.
• Prepares materials for individual/group sessions under the guidance of the classroom teacher.
• Works with individuals/small groups in review, reinforcement, enrichment, and/or expansion of skills and concepts presented.
• Supports teacher(s) with the implementation of interventions, accommodations, and modifications to support students' academic, social, and emotional success.
• Supervises learning groups with teacher's direction.
• Communicates with the teacher(s) regarding children's progress, interest levels, or problem areas.
• Reviews assignments with students, monitors testing and makeup work, organizes classwork and homework for the work relevant to the specific students.
• Interacts positively with students taking into account individual differences and student needs.
• Utilizes confidential and personal information concerning students for professional purposes only, and in accordance with District regulations.
• Assumes responsibilities outside the classroom area as related to supervision of students in the school surroundings.
• Assists students with self-help, personal care skills, and health needs as necessary.
• Assists teacher in maintaining classroom discipline and supports classroom management as directed by the teacher.
• Works with various forms of media, including technology, as necessary within the job area.
• Participates in planned training sessions or inservice meetings as requested by the principal or teacher.
• Performs other assigned tasks essential to the specific position as requested by the administration.

Valid Para-Professional license or Professional Educator's License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.

HOURS: MS, Monday 8:00am-2:30pm;
Tues-Fri 7:45am or 8:00am - 3:45pm.

Professional Learning and Collaboration hours as dictated by contract.

WAGES: $18.06/hr.

$2,000 ANNUAL STIPEND prorated depending upon start date.

CONTRACT/BENEFITS: All Instructional Assistant employees are employed under the Downers Grove Educational Support Personnel (DGESP) contract. Compensation and Benefits can be viewed beginning on page 30.
