Job Details Description

The Department of Anatomy, College of Graduate Studies, invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), non-tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Instructor of Anatomy. The Department is responsible for teaching gross anatomy, histology, embryology, and neuroscience across multiple health professions programs.

The instructor will primarily support the laboratory components of departmental courses, with a particular emphasis on gross anatomy using human dissection and prosection. Responsibilities include working closely with faculty and course directors to deliver high-quality laboratory instruction and student assessment.

Candidates with experience in innovative teaching approaches, including e-learning, digital content development, flipped classroom methodologies, and the implementation of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence in education are especially encouraged to apply. Opportunities for classroom lecture delivery will be available based on departmental needs and the candidate's expertise.

The successful candidate will receive mentorship in teaching, educational scholarship, and professional development. Participation in ongoing research projects or the development of an independent scholarly program in the anatomical sciences is encouraged. Support for attendance at anatomical and educational conferences is available.

This position reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Anatomy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Course Directors, the faculty, and Anatomical Laboratory Manager to successfully deliver the Anatomy Laboratory curriculum
  • Teach in the laboratory portions of our gross anatomy, histology, and neuroscience courses under the supervision of the individual Course Directors
  • Work with the Course Directors in all aspects of educational assessment (e.g., laboratory practical exams), including exam construction (e.g., anatomical labeling, proctoring)
  • Prepare prosected specimens as needed.

Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Anatomical Sciences or a closely related field is preferred. Postdoctoral experience is not required.
  • A master's degree in Anatomical Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or a related discipline with a minimum of 1–3 years of teaching experience is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in teaching human gross anatomy using dissection-based laboratory instruction is required.
  • While gross anatomy is the primary focus of the position, preference will be given to candidates with additional teaching experience in histology and neuroscience, as well as evidence of scholarly activity or research productivity.
  • Experience with innovative educational approaches, including e-learning, digital content development, flipped classroom methodologies, and the integration of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence in education, is preferred.

Skills:

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required. Candidates should also be familiar with learning management systems such as Brightspace, Canvas, or similar educational platforms.
