CED is well situated in Downers Grove, Illinois - we are located a commuter train ride west of Chicago and a short drive from farmland.
CED's current salary range for this role is $102,500 - $138,500 / year. At CED, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions may vary based upon, but not limited to education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift, location and geography. In addition to base salary, the total compensation package may also include participation in a bonus, commission or incentive program.

The Manufacturing Tooling Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and coordination of tooling and fixturing within the production value stream across machining, assembly, and automation. The role involves hands-on interaction with production floor staff, establishing tooling specifications, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Essential Job Functions- Evaluate, design, and develop production tooling and fixturing associated to work-holding, automation, and manufacturing assembly operations
- Evaluate performance of equipment and tools to verify efficiency and process capability. Investigate and initiate corrective action of deficiencies to promote operational excellence
- Review product design and production work centers to identify areas for improved manufacturability, reduction in cost, and improved process reliability
- Coordinate design and fabrication requirements for tools and fixtures with in-house machine shop and/or external vendors
- Create Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and conduct training for assembly staff on tooling methods and processes
- Conduct tooling trials and evaluations to validate product quality, safety, and takt times
- Collaborate with Design and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure production lines operate in a safe, ergonomic, and continuous flow
- Implement improvements focused on error-proofing to eliminate waste in the manufacturing process and make operations safer
- Author and maintain documentation: tooling requirements, process specifications, work instructions, and training guides
- Lead and facilitate Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) for covered processes
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cost, schedule risk, and non-conformances in both hardware and operations
- Comply with government and corporate laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures
- Ensure 100% compliance with the Chemring Operational Framework, BACM, Code of Conduct and U.S. Code of Ethics and Business Conduct

EducationBachelor's degree (B.S.) in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience- Minimum of 5 years of experience relevant professional experience
- Lawful US Person (ITAR restrictions)
- Must be eligible to possess explosives under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended) as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) for all employees of Chemring Energetic Devices
- Experience in interpreting and applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Knowledge of physical properties of materials and associated processing methods ranging from heat treat, plating, coatings, etc.
