Gasperec Elberts Consulting (GEC) has an opening for a Civil Engineering Project Manager to support the ongoing growth of our Civil Engineering Design Group. GEC is a consulting firm providing civil engineering and land surveying services from the planning phase through construction. Job SummaryThe primary role of the Project Manager is to manage the delivery of high-quality design engineering services and submittals, mainly on Phase I and Phase II highway projects in Illinois. A qualified candidate will be self-motivated and eager to engage in a variety of projects for clients, including the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois Tollway, as well as county and municipal agencies.
The Project Manager is expected to utilize engineering expertise and tactful communication to manage project schedule, budget, and quality; coordinate with clients and project stakeholders; and support the development of less experienced design personnel.
- Interpret regulations and guidance from applicable manuals and standards, and apply engineering judgement on design decisions.
- Self-perform and provide technical direction for the preparation of engineering project deliverables, including calculations, technical reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Review work performed by other personnel and ensure that projects adhere to GEC and client Quality Management guidelines.
- Track and report on the technical, budgetary, and schedule performance of projects. Identify and pursue corrective actions when necessary.
- Maintain meaningful contact and coordination with clients and project stakeholders to ensure a satisfactory level of service.
- Support and coordinate with other project disciplines, GEC leadership, and personnel at other firms.
- Ability to make decisions based on sound ethics and engineering judgement.
- Ability to communicate with courtesy and tact.
- Experience preparing deliverables for Illinois transportation agencies.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Good organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to mentor less experienced colleagues.
- Familiarity with Bentley Open Roads Designer.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office software products.
- Post‑secondary education with a focus on math, science, and engineering.
- Professional Engineering License.
- Six or more years of experience in civil engineering design.
- Desire for continued learning and career growth.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Demonstrated experience with IDOT and local government projects.
- Experience in project or task management, including budget and schedule.
