1.0 FTE NIGHT CUSTODIAN

Downers Grove School District 58 is hiring a full‑time night custodian for the 2:30 am–11:00 pm shift at $17.89 /hr. Applicants are encouraged to apply online.

Night custodians maintain a clean, safe school environment by performing custodial and janitorial tasks, closing the building, and ensuring compliance with district programs.

• Empty waste baskets and sharpen pencils as needed.
• Clean all chalkboards and dry‑erase boards daily.
• Dust window sills, countertops, and other surfaces.
• Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors.
• Move furniture for cleaning and return it neatly.
• Clean doors, walls, windows, and attached hardware.
• Remove graffiti.
• Clean and disinfect washroom and locker‑room floors, sinks, toilets, urinals, and plumbing fixtures as needed.
• Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment; request replacements in advance.
• Keep school building premises—including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, lawn areas, roof, and play areas—safe and clean.
• Comply with local laws and procedures for trash and waste storage and disposal.
• Close the building: secure all doors and windows and turn off all lights, except those left on for security reasons.
• Report immediately to the Head Custodian, Assistant Director, or building administrator(s) any damage to school property.
• Move furniture or equipment within the building as required for various activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the head custodian, assistant director of buildings and grounds, or building principal.
• Keep up and comply with district energy‑savings programs.

Demonstrates aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities. Such qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Hours:

Full‑time 2:30 am–11:00 pm (subject to slight adjustment for winter/spring break and summer).
Wages: $17.89 /hr.
Contract/Benefits:
All custodial employees are employed under the Downers Grove Custodial Maintenance contract. Compensation and benefits can be viewed on page 26.
