American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level 1 Trauma Center in Downers Grove, IL. The role requires a minimum of 2 years of ER experience and TNCC certification.
Assignment Overview- Shift: Nights, 3×12 hrs (6 p.m.–6 a.m.)
- Hours:
36 hrs per week - Length: 13 weeks
- Start date:
ASAP (typically 3‑4 weeks after offer receipt) - Openings: 1
- 28‑bed Emergency Department (including 11 hallway beds and 4 triage rooms) at a 313‑bed, Magnet‑designated Level 1 Trauma Center
- Geriatric‑focused patient population (predominantly 65 + years) with multiple comorbidities and a heavy psych/ addiction population
- High‑acuity case mix including sepsis, DKA, MI, stroke, IVDA, ETOH, and all types of trauma; average 120 visits per day
- Emergency acuity scale heavily weighted toward ESI 2‑3 patients
- RN‑to‑patient ratio 1:3–6 based on acuity; ER Tech ratio 1:14
- No floating or on‑call responsibilities
- No ER physicians on shift other than the scheduled 10 a.m.–10 p.m. and 2 a.m.–8 a.m. coverage; PA covers triage 10 a.m.–10 p.m.
- EMR:
Epic (required experience) - Equipment:
Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips bedside monitors with nurse station monitoring
- Active IL RN license
- Certifications:
BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC (CPI/MOAB preferred) - Minimum 2 years of ER experience;
Level 1 Trauma experience preferred - Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, ventilator management, critical care drip management, tPA administration, conscious sedation
- Skills:
NGT placement, IV starts, Foley insertion, wound care, splinting - Strong assessment, communication, and patient‑experience skills
- Minimum 1 professional reference within the past year
- Candidate’s middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
- First‑time travelers welcome
- Former employees of Advocate Health must have been separated for at least 12 months
- Local candidates accepted at the same rate – no radius restrictions
- Unit support: ER Techs (POC testing, EKG, phlebotomy, splinting, procedure setup), charge nurse, 24‑/7 RT and hospitalist coverage, phlebotomy support for difficult draws
- Orientation: new employee orientation (NEO) plus one shift of unit orientation
- Scheduling is self‑scheduled by staff; available shifts visible after schedule balance
- 50 % of holidays within contract required to be worked
- RTO requests must be approved by manager
- Scrub color: navy blue
- Free on‑site parking available
Weekly wage: $1,044 (36 hrs × $29.00 per hour)
Weekly stipend: $1,281 (includes lodging, meals & incidentals)
Estimated weekly pay range: $2,155 – $2,325, with local pay lower and travel pay higher. Tax‑free stipends comply with IRS guidelines.
