Position: Building Mechanic- IL- Campus Facilities- 2nd Shift- Tues-Sat 3pm-11:30 pm

Summary

The Building Mechanic performs routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures on buildings, mechanical equipment and utility systems. This position reports to the Lead Stationary Engineer. The hours for this position are Tuesday‑Saturday from 3 pm to 11:30 pm.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Perform minor and major repairs of all buildings and equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance procedures on building mechanical equipment on a scheduled basis; inspect belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, grease bearings, seals, etc.; repair or replace broken parts.
  • Complete daily, weekly and monthly checklists on building equipment maintenance procedures and maintain records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
  • Participate in developing and implementing mechanical maintenance plans to prevent costly equipment breakdowns.
  • Cleans and inspects boiler; treat water with proper chemicals.
  • May operate a computer which controls and monitors mechanical equipment and utility systems.
  • Repairs refrigeration equipment.
  • Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings and pipes composed of metals (iron, steel, brass, lead) and nonmetals (glass, vitrified clay, plastic).
  • Install and repair plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners.
  • Repair and maintain plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains.
  • Monitor building temperatures and adjust as necessary.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

And/Or Experience
  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • The EPA Universal Certification license is strongly desired.
  • A certification from a technical school or Associate’s degree in a related field is desired.
  • 1–2 years of related experience with HVAC equipment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
Computer Skills
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office, Word, and Excel is desired.
Language Skills
  • Intermediate:
    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Reasoning Ability
  • Intermediate:
    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form; deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
