Position: Mobile Diesel Mechanic II - Class C License $2500 New Hire Bonus

Fleet Services by Cox Automotive – Mobile Diesel Technician Level II

Fleet Services, a Cox Automotive company headquartered in Indianapolis, is a leading provider of on‑site mobile maintenance and repair services for light, medium, and heavy‑duty trucks and trailers. The company operates 50+ nationwide service centers and supports fleets with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, powered by a 24/7 call center and mobile service trucks.

Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Make minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starter/alternator, fan clutch, engine electronics, steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose and repair various truck equipment using diagnostic tools, handheld computers, and pressure gauges.
  • Conduct road tests to confirm proper vehicle operation.
  • Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and use sound judgment to determine solutions.
  • Manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliations.
  • Maintain and operate the service vehicle, performing safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and customers to assess needs and resolve issues.
  • Prioritize concurrent tasks and allocate time effectively.
  • Use hand, precision, diesel, welding, lift, and jack tools.
  • Document work on Repair Orders (RO) using company iOS devices and the proprietary TRAIT application.
  • Complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly.
  • Work independently and manage daily schedules.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and meet standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed.
  • Communicate with management for repair estimates, purchase order numbers, and RO findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
  • Maintain the service truck, conduct daily safety checks, and perform pre/post‑trip inspections.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED with 3 years of related experience (or equivalent combinations such as a higher degree with fewer years).
  • Set of hand tools necessary for the duties.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
  • Successful completion of DOT federal background screening and DOT physical/medical card with at least 4 months validity.
  • Minimum age 21, valid state driver’s license, and Class C license.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a Driver Qualification File.

Compensation

Hourly pay range: $29.42 – $44.13 per hour. The base rate may vary by location and candidate qualifications. Additional compensation may include commission, annual or monthly incentives.
