Staff Accountant

A growing wholesale distribution business in Downey, CA is seeking a hands‑on Staff Accountant for a direct hire opportunity. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys a balanced mix of accounts payable, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, reporting, and month‑end close support. The Staff Accountant will support both distribution and retail operations in a multi‑entity, multi‑location environment. • Manage accounts payable activities, including vendor setup, W‑9 documentation, invoice review, coding, approvals, payment processing, and vendor inquiries.
• Prepare and post journal entries, recurring accounting entries, accruals, payroll‑related entries, revenue entries, and other general ledger transactions.
• Reconcile bank accounts, vendor statements, balance sheet accounts, intercompany balances, and accounting discrepancies across multiple entities and locations.
• Support month‑end close by preparing schedules, recording adjustments, reviewing account activity, and assisting with financial statements and management reports.
• Prepare sales tax filings for operations, reconcile taxable sales to accounting and POS records, and maintain related documentation.
• Partner with internal departments to resolve invoice issues, improve accounting workflows, support audits, and maintain organized financial records.

Compensation: $32.00 to $36.00 per hour.

• Minimum of 2 years of hands‑on general accounting experience extending beyond accounts payable.
• Target experience level of 3 to 5 years in accounting, corporate accounting, or a similar finance function.
• Experience preparing journal entries and reconciling bank and balance sheet accounts.
• Experience supporting month‑end close activities.
• Strong understanding of accrual accounting, debits, credits, account coding, and accounting periods.
• Accounts payable experience, including invoice processing, approval workflows, payment administration, and vendor communication.
• Experience using Quick Books.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical, research, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to resolve discrepancies.
• Excellent attention to detail, organization, follow‑through, and ability to manage recurring deadlines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
