Senior Clerical Assistant
This position is with the Downey Unified School District. The salary range is $4,224.00 - $5,126.00 monthly. The location is Downey, CA, and the job type is full-time. This is a promotional and open recruitment to establish an eligibility list and fill vacancies. The eligibility list will be used to fill permanent vacancies which may occur during the life of the eligibility list. Positions in this classification are full-time, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year.
The recruitment process will consist of a written and an oral technical interview, which is tentatively scheduled during the weeks of August 10 - 31, 2026. Qualified applicants will be notified by email.

The basic function of this position is to perform a variety of responsible and specialized clerical and typing work in support of an assigned District function; provide work direction and guidance to student assistants and other clerical personnel as assigned.
The essential duties include performing technical responsibilities related to assigned function, receiving and screening phone calls and visitors, composing correspondence, preparing letters, memos and forms, maintaining master schedule, coordinating and communicating with others regarding meetings, appointments, activities or announcements, maintaining financial and statistical records, providing specialized information to others, assuring timely distribution and receipt of records and reports, operating office machines, maintaining confidentiality of sensitive materials and information, receiving and verifying applications for services, maintaining records, preparing and maintaining detailed and complex logs, files and records, maintaining inventory, ordering supplies and materials, and performing related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment, financial and statistical record keeping techniques, correct English usage, telephone techniques and etiquette, interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, ability to perform clerical and typing work, provide work direction and guidance, add, subtract, multiply and divide quickly and accurately, learn to interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures, meet schedules and time lines, plan and organize work, train and provide work direction to others, maintain records and prepare reports, type at 45 words net per minute from clear copy, understand and follow oral and written directions, operate a variety of office equipment, and demonstrate attendance, mental acuity, empathy, friendliness, patience and responsibility are required.
Education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school including or supplemented by business courses and three years of increasingly responsible clerical experience are required.
