Overview
Under the direction of a Classified or Certificated administrator, install, maintain, build and repair District computers and network equipment and peripherals to enhance the quality of established curriculum and prevent service interruption of equipment.
Responsibilities- Prioritize emergency calls determining safety hazards and methods and procedures for their correction.
- Schedule work to be completed by contacting principals, department heads and teachers so that educational priorities and processes will not be interrupted.
- Schedule and perform preventive maintenance on computers, networks, and ancillary equipment.
- Troubleshoot local and wide area networks to assure maximum network performance and reliability.
- Assist personnel with software-related issues, including operating systems, applications, and networking software, both in person and over the phone, utilizing remote support capabilities when appropriate.
- Consult with vendors and District personnel regarding timely and cost-efficient completion of District projects.
- Coordinate efforts of outside vendors and District personnel to reach desired standardization of equipment and processes.
- Assist with the training of District staff in the operation of computers, tablets, and related peripheral equipment and software.
- Install cables necessary for computer systems, networks and microcomputers throughout the District, coordinating with other departments to incorporate cabling needs to department standards.
- Utilize a variety of electronic test equipment to determine defects and malfunctions; replace defective components and wiring using a wide variety of hand tools and equipment.
- Maintain a variety of delivery, repair and supply records.
- Drive a District service vehicle to and from work sites; coordinate and direct the work of helpers as assigned.
- May build desktop computers using an inventory of pre-made computer components.
- May enter technology related equipment into inventory tracking system and deliver technology related equipment to sites.
- May be responsible for maintaining equipment, parts and tool inventory.
- May receive telephone calls and requests through an automated work order system from users requesting assistance in solving problems, obtaining technology services or guidance in technology utilization.

Knowledge of- Tools, equipment, practices and methods of installing, cleaning, adjusting and repairing computer systems, peripherals and related equipment.
- Basic electronic concepts and principles of electronic data processing, digital electronic logic, computer time-sharing operations and data transmissions.
- Personal computer hardware, including Macintosh and Intel-based platforms.
- MAC OS 10 and higher.
- Windows Operating Systems version 7 and higher.
- Computer networking concepts, including network topologies, equipment, cabling, and operating systems.
- Computer troubleshooting methodologies, including those used with hardware, networks, and software.
- Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
- Record keeping techniques.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
- Technical aspects of field of specialty.
- Plan and lay-out work including accurately estimating labor and material costs.
- Install, replace, maintain and repair various types of computer systems, networks, peripherals, and related equipment effectively and efficiently.
- Effectively diagnose the presence of human error in network, computer and computer-related problems, and deal effectively and tactfully with individuals in explaining how to avoid similar problems in the future.
- Utilize electronic testing equipment to determine defects and malfunctions.
- Work from plans, technical manuals, schematics, diagrams and specifications.
- Share knowledge in area of expertise with other employees to provide cross-training.
- Exercise appropriate judgment in the course of duties.
- Meet schedules and timelines.
- Learn and adapt to changing technologies and job responsibilities.
- Schedule maintenance and repair work, setting and meeting deadlines.
- Maintain records and prepare concise reports.
- Demonstrate attendance sufficient to complete the duties of the position as required.

- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.
- Use tact, patience, and courtesy in dealing with others.
- Work collaboratively with both Technology Department staff and staff of other department to meet District needs.
- Any combination equivalent to:
College or technical school coursework in the information technology field and three years journey-level experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of networks, computer systems, peripherals, and related equipment.
