This is a Promotional and Open recruitment to establish an eligibility list and fill vacancies. The eligibility list will be used to fill permanent vacancies which may occur during the life of the eligibility list. In a promotional and open recruitment, the promotional list shall take precedence. When the promotional list contains fewer than three eligible and willing employees, certification of additional ranks shall then be made from the open list.

Positions in this classification are full-time (40 hours per week), 12 months per year.

The recruitment process will consist of a written examination, performance examination and an oral technical interview, which is tentatively scheduled during the weeks of June 22 - July 10, 2026. Qualified applicants will be notified by email.

Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, perform a variety of carpentry work including rough and finish carpentry and mill and cabinet work; perform other maintenance duties as required. E
  • Perform carpentry work such as repairing and installing cabinets, bookcases, window frames, exterior trim, partitions, walls, doors, counters, scaffolds, stands, forms and fences; and other items as required. E
  • Install and repair windows, doors and locks. E
  • Estimate and obtain materials and supplies needed to complete assignments; contact vendors to obtain supplies and materials needed. E
  • Operate a variety of tools and equipment including saws, drills, sanders and other hand and power tools. E
  • Maintain related records, such as records of work orders; maintain inventory of carpentry shop and vehicle stock. E
  • Observe and comply with applicable codes, regulations and safety procedures. E
  • Work from sketches, plans, drawings, blueprints and specifications. E
  • Train and provide work direction to others as assigned.
  • Operate District vehicle to conduct work; clean and service assigned vehicle. E
  • Perform a variety of maintenance duties involving floor and ceiling tile replacement, concrete and plaster work and related maintenance duties as needed.
  • Perform other maintenance duties as assigned.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of
  • Methods, equipment and materials used in the carpentry trade.
  • Standard practices and procedures of carpentry trade including mill and cabinet work.

  • Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies.
