Job Summary:
Delaware Valley University invites applications for one part-time adjunct faculty position to direct the Delaware Valley University Jazz Band. The Jazz Band is an opportunity for Del Val University students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the greater Doylestown Community to perform in a large jazz ensemble, learn jazz repertoire and playing techniques.
Responsibilities:
- Select appropriate repertoire for the jazz band, considering instrumentation, grade level, and relevant program theme(s)
- Create a syllabus for the course LA-1055
- Lead weekly rehearsals on Tuesdays at 5:00-5:50pm during the semester
- Present two concerts in conjunction with the Delaware Valley University Symphonic Band each semester (Fall 2026 concert dates are Friday, October 2 and Friday, December
4. Spring 2027 dates TBD) - Assess student learning outcomes
- Submit final grades for students enrolled in the course within 72 hours of the university's last final exam day
- Communicate any repertoire, equipment, and ensemble needs with the Director of Music and Arts, Dr. Britney Alcine
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree, preferably in Jazz Studies or Music Education, from a regionally accredited institution
- 3-5 years of professional experience in Jazz performance, ensemble directing, music teaching or a related field relevant to the course
- Prior teaching or training experience at the university level is strongly preferred
