7 POSITION SUMMARY :

Involved in the service of process, prisoner transports and bench warrants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Civil process:
    Assumsit, trespass, divorce, mortgage foreclosure, attachments, attachment executions, injunctions, habeas corpus, mental health, PFA orders, executions (real and personal), revival of judgment, subpoena, foreign debtor attachments, tax notices and mandamus.
  • Prisoner transfers:
    Bucks County Correctional Facility to court and return, transfer from other jurisdictions, to mental health institutions and transport prisoners to and from assigned details.
  • Bench warrants:
    Investigate and apprehend on bench warrants (fugitives); strikes, riots and emergencies; assists other police agencies upon request; 24 hour call, 7-days a week and various shifts required.
  • Court security:
    Responsible for court security.
  • Other courthouse duties include: criminal, civil and juvenile courts, Domestic Relations, maintains security of courthouse holding cell, guilty pleas, arraignments and custody of prisoners in court.
  • May be required to perform additional work that follows prescribed or well-established procedures that can be learned within a reasonable time by training on the job. More detailed instructions as to the nature of their duties will be given to employees at the beginning of their various assigned shift work.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must be 21 years old with no criminal record.
  • Deputy Sheriffs' probationary period is one (1) year from date of hire. This is effective as of 01/01/2005.
  • Must pass Physical Agility Test and written test before interview.
    • Must meet the MPOETC fitness standards based on the applicant's gender and age.
  • Within one (1) year of hire, employees hired in this job class must successfully complete the Deputy Sheriffs' Basic Training Program (certification) through Pennsylvania State University.
