Residential Counselor – Brain Injury

• Provide individual and group support to people with brain injuries or behavioral conditions in a residential program
• Teach skills that enhance independence, self-advocacy, and quality of life
• Maintain a safe, secure, and clean residential environment
• Help individuals integrate into their communities and develop friendships
• Support access to community resources, assistive technology, adaptive equipment, employment, volunteering, and community engagement
• Plan recreational and social activities
• Provide training and support involving behavioral interventions, safety regulations, appointments, money management, activities of daily living, shopping, meal planning, cooking, and household chores
• Provide transportation to outings, shopping, and appointments
• Assess physical and emotional status and report changes to the supervisor
• Monitor individual funds and maintain records, progress notes, communication logs, and incident documentation
• Procure, store, administer, document, and dispose of medication according to MAP requirements and company policy
• Communicate with program nurses, case managers, visiting nurses, families, and other interested parties
• Participate in mandated training and staff meetings
• Maintain home safety and upkeep, including housekeeping, snow shoveling, and trash removal
• Provide shift coverage in other homes or programs as assigned
• Serve as a human rights advocate and provide physical intervention or First Aid during emergencies
• Assist with developing, implementing, and documenting treatment plans, ISP/PSTPs, and clinical programs
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, corporate, and divisional policies

• High school diploma or GED required
• Bachelor's degree in a Human Services-related field preferred
• Experience working with people with developmental disabilities, behavioral conditions, and/or brain injury strongly preferred
• Strong time management and writing skills
• At least 21 years of age
• Current, valid US driver's license maintained for at least one year
• Adequate insurance required when using a personal vehicle
• Safe driving record and successful driving-record screening
• Ability to become CPR and First Aid certified within two weeks of employment
• Ability to become MAP certified within 150 days of employment
• Ability to complete PBS Tier 1 certification within 150 days of employment
• Ability to Safety Care certification within 90 days of employment
• Ability to successfully pass CORI, reference, national fingerprinting, and driving-record checks
• Knowledge of advocacy, empowerment, self-advocacy, communication, participatory planning, crisis intervention, household management, and physical personal management techniques
• Ability to implement PBS treatment programs
• Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written formats
• Ability to work professionally and confidentially
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, and maneuver through narrow spaces
• Ability to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or a two-person lift
• Ability to assist clients with activities of daily living
• Ability to operate a computer, calculator, copier, and printer
• Ability to speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives
• May be asked to obtain CBIS certification

Demonstrates expertise in providing support to individuals with brain injuries and behavioral conditions, focusing on enhancing independence and quality of life through effective communication, advocacy, and community integration. Proficient in implementing treatment plans and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
