Role DescriptionTeuscher Walpole is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Associate to join our tax team. This position serves as a technical advisor and assists clients and team members in resolving moderate to complex tax matters.
The Senior Tax Associate will prepare and review tax returns and planning engagements for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, estates, and other entities. This position works closely with staff, managers, partners, clients, outside service providers, and taxing authorities.
The ideal candidate can manage multiple engagements, research complex tax matters, mentor junior staff, and communicate confidently with clients. Additional hours will be required during peak tax seasons.
This position also offers opportunities to participate in business development, build long‑term client relationships, and advance within the firm—including potential advancement to partner for the right candidate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Prepare and review complex federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals and business entities.
- Prepare tax‑planning calculations and projections.
- Research technical tax matters and develop practical planning strategies.
- Identify and resolve routine to complex tax issues.
- Manage multiple tax engagements while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards.
- Review the work of junior team members and provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship.
- Communicate directly with clients, firm leadership, outside advisors, and taxing authorities.
- Monitor engagement progress and budgets and assist with billing recommendations.
- Support clients with tax notices, examinations, and other tax‑related matters.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Participate in client relationship management, marketing, and business‑development initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- At least three years of recent public accounting tax experience.
- Experience preparing and reviewing returns for multiple entity types.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state income‑tax compliance.
- Ability to research and interpret the Internal Revenue Code, Treasury Regulations, and other tax guidance.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time‑management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, paperless office environment.
- High level of professional integrity and commitment to client service.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Active CPA license or demonstrated progress toward certification.
- Master’s degree in taxation, accounting, or a related field.
- Experience with Thomson Reuters CS Professional Suite, including Ultra Tax CS, Planner CS, and Fixed Assets CS.
- Experience with multistate taxation, transfer taxes, trust and estate planning and compliance, mergers and acquisitions, or international taxation.
- Previous experience supervising or mentoring tax staff.
- Interest or experience in business development and practice growth.
