Job Description
The Calibration Technician B / R&D Lab Technician applies knowledge of measurement science, mathematics, physics, and electronics to calibrate a wide range of inspection, measurement, and test equipment across multiple disciplines. In this role, you ensure the accuracy and reliability of critical instruments by following established calibration procedures, identifying and correcting measurement errors, and documenting results with precision. You work primarily in a professional laboratory environment, receiving general instructions on work assignments and using your technical judgment to recognize deviations from accepted practice.
This position offers hands-on work with advanced RF and multi-discipline test equipment, opportunities to support field calibration, and clear paths for professional growth.
Responsibilities
+ Calibrate inspection, measurement, and test equipment (IM&TE) in one or more disciplines including Acoustical, Chemical, Dimensional, DC/Low Frequency, RF/Microwave, Fluid, Mechanical, Optical, Thermodynamics, and Time & Frequency to ensure compliance with published specifications.
+ Maintain secondary and working calibration standards to support consistent and traceable measurements.
+ Perform basic maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of precision equipment to keep instruments operating within required tolerances.
+ Collect, compile, measure, summarize, and accurately record data gathered during calibration activities.
+ Identify out-of-tolerance conditions and perform corrective actions such as adjustments, component replacement, or application of correction factors.
+ Identify and correct measurement errors where applicable, using your understanding of measurement science and instrumentation.
+ Prepare clear and complete calibration reports and certificates that document procedures, results, and any adjustments made.
+ Adapt existing calibration equipment, standards, and techniques to accomplish unique or non-standard measurement tasks.
+ Train less-experienced technicians in calibration concepts, procedures, and best practices.
+ Collaborate and interact professionally with other technicians, Customer Service Representatives, Account Managers, and customers to address technical questions and service needs.
+ Perform general laboratory housekeeping to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
+ Follow written procedures, company policies, and quality standards in all calibration and documentation activities.
+ Support occasional local field work to service larger equipment at customer sites, as required.
+ Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support laboratory operations and customer requirements.
Essential Skills
+ Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
+ Ability to perform general math and algebra functions to support measurement and calibration calculations.
+ Good written and oral communication skills to document results and interact with internal and external stakeholders.
+ Basic ability to troubleshoot, repair, align, and optimize precision equipment.
+ Basic computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation and data entry.
+ Minimum of one year of calibration experience, with some experience allowable through formal metrology training.
+ Strong attention to detail and accuracy in measurement, documentation, and reporting.
+ Ability to work as a self-motivator, follow written procedures, and function effectively as a team player.
+ Very good interpersonal and customer service skills for working with colleagues and customers.
+ Experience running tests on devices to calibrate them using formal, documented processes.
+ Calibration and metrology experience with equipment such as digital multimeters (DMM), signal generators, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, function generators, frequency counters, and power meters.
+ Willingness to travel as required for local field work, where applicable.
+ Ability to work with and interpret test procedures, schematics, and circuit-level information when troubleshooting equipment.
