Social Worker Duties
As a Social Worker (Indefinite) (Title
5), GS-0185-11/12, you will:
- Support the psychological health team in developing and executing an annual behavioral health program strategy.
- Determine program priorities, gaps, and means to meet annual goals.
- Support the development and annual review of written standard operating procedures governing the behavioral health system of care.
- Be responsible for psychological health promotion, implementation of behavioral health programs, and evaluation activities.
- Formulate strategies to generate interest, acceptance, and participation by organizational partners, community partners, and NG Soldiers and family members.
- Serve as primary advisor on methods to successfully reduce stigma and market psychological health programs.
- Develop relationships with military and community groups to enhance prevention efforts and expand available behavioral health resources.
- Develop an extensive array of behavioral health resources, associations, and community partnerships available to support NG soldiers and families.
- Participate in community activities to build prevention efforts, learn/influence community problem-solving, and forge community connections that promote psychologically healthy lifestyles within the NG.
- Collaborate with other disciplines and programs concerning family support, resiliency, suicide prevention, sexual assault, and substance abuse. Participate in community outreach and prevention initiatives professionally and appropriately.
- Coordinate substantial findings and possible effects of outreach efforts with the State Surgeon and key leaders in an effective and timely manner.
- Coordinate and implement prevention and education programs.
- Conduct comprehensive needs assessments and Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunity, and Threat (SWOT) analyses that form the basis for program development activities.
- Develop and provide access to primary prevention services to inform and educate leadership and the NG community at large about the dynamics, treatments, and behaviors associated with psychological illness.
- Build capacity and provide access to secondary preventive support services and psycho-educational skills-development activities.
- Identify common skill-building referrals sources including parenting skills, stress management, change management, anger management, financial/money management, support groups for single parents, couples communication, etc.
- Conduct clinical screening, evaluation, and consultation services.
- Conduct pre-mobilization and post-mobilization screenings.
- Complete comprehensive assessments under guidelines of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) of the American Psychiatric Association.
- Prepare written evaluation reports with clinical impressions.
- Build efficient processes to manage behavioral health referrals and case management services.
- Conduct population-based behavioral health surveillance to examine trends and further develop targeted prevention and mitigation strategies.
- Collect population-level data including distribution of service members by demographics (age, gender/sex, education level, race/ethnicity), service characteristics (time in service, rank, unit mission), and deployment characteristics (frequency and duration of deployments, combat exposure).
- Track frequency of mental health encounters, positive mental health screen on health assessments, interest in mental health assistance, mandated reporting situations, and suicide mitigations.
- Train providers on psychological health matters, resources, and interventions to increase wellness and psychological readiness.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
