PositionRocky Mountain Laboratories is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Clinical Laboratory Assistant to support specimen accessioning, processing, and daily laboratory operations. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for a current student or recent graduate interested in becoming a laboratory technician or pursuing a career in clinical laboratory science.
The position provides hands-on exposure to specimen handling, laboratory workflows, documentation, quality standards, and the daily operations of a clinical laboratory. In addition to laboratory responsibilities, the Clinical Laboratory Assistant will complete scheduled pickups of clinical specimens from the airport using a company-provided vehicle.
The ideal candidate is organized, reliable, eager to learn, and comfortable balancing detailed laboratory work with occasional responsibilities outside the laboratory.
Position Details- Location: Draper, Utah
- Schedule: Tuesday–Saturday, 5:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
- Employment Type: Full-time, W2
- Compensation: $XX.XX–$XX.XX per hour, depending on experience
Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential due to time-sensitive laboratory workflows and scheduled specimen pickups.
W2 hourly employees receive an 8% shift differential for all hours worked on Saturdays and Sundays.
Responsibilities Laboratory Support- Follow standard operating procedures, quality assurance requirements, and laboratory safety guidelines
- Maintain accurate laboratory logs, records, and required documentation
- Monitor specimen status and help the team meet productivity and turnaround-time expectations
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and compliant work environment
- Assist with laboratory supplies, inventory, receiving, and restocking
- Communicate effectively with laboratory personnel and other internal teams to support an efficient workflow
- Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements
- Receive, sort, label, accession, and prepare clinical specimens for clinical toxicology and molecular laboratory testing
- Accurately enter patient, order, and specimen information into the Laboratory Information System
- Verify specimen information and identify issues such as mislabeling, insufficient volume, leaks, missing documentation, or improper storage
- Process, package, store, and distribute specimens to the appropriate laboratory departments
- Maintain accurate specimen-tracking and chain-of-custody documentation
- Escalate specimen discrepancies and processing concerns to the appropriate team member
- Pick up clinical specimens from the airport using a company-provided vehicle and transport them safely to the Draper laboratory
- Maintain appropriate specimen security and handling conditions during transportation
- Promptly communicate any pickup delays, damaged packages, or specimen concerns to the laboratory team
- Perform other duties as assigned to support laboratory operations
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
- Ability to meet company requirements for operating a company vehicle
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Ability to follow written procedures and safety requirements
