The asphalt grounds person is responsible for safely performing a variety of duties to assist at an asphalt plant. This position involves various manual tasks, working per the supervisor's instruction with minimal direct supervision except for more complicated jobs. The role requires working at heights.
Plant LaborerKey Responsibilities
- Participates in daily THINK/TRACK meetings plus weekly safety meetings.
- Follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
- Assist in plant production of materials and ensure the efficient working condition of the plant.
- Walk and monitor the asphalt plant while in production to identify any issues.
- Perform daily maintenance pre‑checks on the plant and equipment.
- Ensure that all assigned equipment is properly maintained, clean, in safe working order and operated properly.
- Prepare plant for operations at the beginning of the season and perform shutdown procedures at the end of the season.
- Operate front‑end loader, skid‑steer, end dump truck and other heavy equipment as needed.
- Perform plant maintenance and repairs as needed.
- Work night shift.
- Use various equipment, hand and power tools.
- Picks up and/or delivers construction materials at job site locations.
- Perform job site clean‑up.
- Maintain all tools and equipment in a safe and clean condition.
- Other duties as assigned per supervisor.

Education/Experience- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
- Previous related experience in the construction field is a plus.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to work well with others in a group or one‑on‑one setting.
- May be subject to drug testing, and physical agility testing.
- Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
