POSITION SUMMARY
The position works under the direction of the Animal Control Supervisor and is responsible for enforcing all city ordinances relating to small and large domestic animals, providing assistance relevant to animal control, animal health, and humane treatment.

- Respond to citizen complaints and enforce all animal control ordinances.
- Enforce city ordinances regarding public health, safety, and zoning.
- Monitor bite and rabies cases for proper testing and compliance with laws.
- Perform inspections and provide licensing.
- Appear in court to testify in support of the city’s position regarding violations of city ordinance and applicable state codes.
- Impound animals to be held in custody.
- Collaborate with city, state and federal agencies.
- Use a bike to patrol city trails.
- Properly handle wildlife.
- Perform officer and clerical work including computer data entry of case reports and licensing information.
- Prepare and maintain accurate reports documenting investigations, enforcement actions, animal impoundment, shelter activities, adoptions, releases, etc.
- Maintain files, database, and records related to investigations, animal control activities, shelter operations, and enforcement action.
- Participate in on-call and after-hours calls involving animal control and shelter‑related emergencies.
- Assure humane care and conditions of impounded animals.
- Assist police officers with special events.
- Euthanize animals when necessary and ensure proper disposal.
- Perform shelter responsibilities including facility and animal maintenance.
- Promote a high level of customer service and good public relations.

- Education
:
Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. - Experience
: 1 or more years working experience with animals; knowledge of animal husbandry or job‑related experience is preferred. Experience with computers and general office practices. - License and Certification
:
Must possess a current Euthanasia Certificate or become certified within 6 months of hire. Must possess a valid Utah driver’s license.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of
:- Animal control procedures; small and large domestic animal care, handling potentially dangerous animals, including vicious or rabid animals.
- Modern office practices and procedures; working knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
- Skilled with
:- Greeting customers, guests and visitors; exercising initiative in using time productively and without close supervision; handling confrontational situations and making sound decisions.
- Ability to
:- Provide customer service and answer public inquiries; obtain information for follow‑up.
- Work independently.
- Navigate Draper City to identify and respond to specific locations.
- Communicate effectively with the public under adverse circumstances.
- Analyze situations and make sound recommendations and decisions in animal control procedures and city ordinances.
- Follow city policy, establish priorities, concentrate on tasks accurately, and accomplish duties timely.
- Project a professional image, respond with accuracy and courtesy, and maintain a strong public service orientation.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
- Maintain rabies immunizations.
Typical office setting with comfortable climate controls, but regular exposure to wet and/or humid conditions. Performance of duties may require working in varied weather conditions such as extreme cold or hot conditions. Tasks require walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing and seeing. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving.
