Loveland Living Planet Aquarium (LLPA) is a mission-driven institution dedicated to inspiring people to explore, discover, and learn about Earth’s diverse ecosystems. Founded in 1997, the Aquarium provides impactful educational experiences for guests of all ages and backgrounds.

Since opening its Draper, Utah facility in 2014, LLPA has welcomed more than 10 million visitors and delivered over 650,000 educational experiences to students. Home to over 4,000 animals representing 650 species, the Aquarium features immersive habitats from around the world, including coral reefs, kelp forests, the deep ocean, Antarctic waters, tropical rainforests, Asian cloud forests, and Utah’s freshwater ecosystems.

Position Summary:

The Facilities Technician supports the maintenance, repair, and overall functionality of building systems and infrastructure. This role ensures a safe, efficient, and well-maintained environment through preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work across multiple trades including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and general facilities upkeep.

This Facilities position has a primary focus on the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the Aquarium’s HVAC systems. This role helps ensure reliable climate control throughout the facility to support animal welfare, guest comfort, and safe, efficient building operations.

Qualifications, Critical Skills, and

Competencies:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required (technical certification preferred)
  • 3+ years of facilities maintenance or related experience
  • Advanced proficiency across multiple trades including drywall and painting
  • Moderate proficiency across multiple trades including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, hand and power tools
  • Advanced proficiency in HVAC service and repair
  • Basic experience in fabrication
  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Experience coordinating projects or vendors preferred
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards
  • EPA/RMGA, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certifications preferred

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain HVAC systems using BMS, proper preventative maintenance, and reactive repair
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, and painting
  • Complete preventative maintenance tasks to ensure safe and efficient facility operations
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve facility issues in a timely manner
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures and maintain compliance with regulations
  • Properly use and maintain tools, equipment, and materials
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Communicate effectively with team members and other departments
  • Assist with facility improvement projects and general upkeep
