Research Associate II – City of Hope, Duarte, CA

A Research Associate II position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Melanie Shapiro, PhD, in the AR‑DMRI Department of Diabetes Immunology. You will perform a variety of experiments related to the genetics and immunology of type 1 diabetes.
The Shapiro laboratory studies germ‑line genetic variants predicting response to immunotherapies for type 1 diabetes, as well as somatic variants in the pancreas and immune cells of organ donors with type 1 diabetes.
Responsibilities- Isolate and culture immune cells in vitro
- Perform CRISPR/Cas9‑mediated gene editing
- Run multicolor flow cytometry and analysis
- Execute ELISA and/or multiplex cytokine quantification assays
- Analyze single nucleotide polymorphism genotyping data
- Perform murine injections, dissection, and processing of pancreas and immune organs for in vivo experiments
- Process and analyze single‑cell RNA sequencing data
- Bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred)
- 2+ years of related research/laboratory experience with a bachelor’s degree, or 1+ year with a master’s degree
- Some experience in the experimental and analytical techniques listed above is preferred, but not required
