DescriptionTourism Economics is a subsidiary of Oxford Economics dedicated to analytically-based consulting to the tourism sector. Oxford Economics is one of the world’s leading economics consultancies, providing advice to international institutions, governments and blue-chip companies.
We are looking to hire a Senior Economist to join the consulting team at Tourism Economics. Our team provides a range of analytical services to clients, including:
- Quantifying the economic impact of tourism-related industries, companies, events, and visitor segments;
- Developing tourism satellite accounts;
- Performing cost-benefit analyses of public policies;
- Examining the return on investment of infrastructure development and marketing expenditures; and
- Constructing tailored forecasts for various visitor segments.
This role will be based within the EMEA consulting team. Consulting projects usually run for between two and six months, and culminate in a report or presentation to a client. The Senior Economist role will entail significant contributions to major projects and managing other smaller projects.
Senior Economists collaborate closely with Lead Economists and Associate Directors on all aspects of client engagements. Their responsibilities range from contributing to the design of methodologies and writing proposals to project management, conducting analysis, and communicating results to the client. Project teams generally consist of one or two economists and, when needed, specialised econometric modellers.
A core part of the role will involve implementing quantitative models using a variety of analytical tools such as IO modelling, cost-benefit analysis, or econometric analysis.
The post-holder will report to the Director of Consulting, EMEA.
Key Responsibilities- Managing and overseeing smaller research studies;
- Ensuring robust and rigorous economic analysis in the delivery of consultancy projects;
- Applying and assuring quantitative analytical techniques as applied to large datasets;
- Handling clients and potential clients effectively and developing Tourism Economics’ relationship with them;
- Assisting in the development of research proposals, project reports, and presentations;
- Planning and structuring projects, and coordinating input from a range of team members, ensuring sufficient time for quality assurance;
- Being entrepreneurial and proactive in the identification and pursuit of new business opportunities; and
- For the right candidate, line management of one or two team members, to ensure resources are allocated efficiently and to support professional development.
- Extensive experience of client-facing work and the ability to develop commercial relationships with potential clients;
- Substantial experience of economic analysis, including familiarity with analytical techniques such as IO modelling, cost-benefit analysis and econometrics.
- Excellent analytical skills;
- Evidence of being proactive and creative in using economics to answer (external, internal or policymaker) clients’ questions;
- Very strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain economic concepts and quantitative results, as well as their implications, to non-specialists; and
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to going the extra mile to produce rigorous, accurate work, within the constraints of the time and resources available.
Desirable:
- Experience in managing consulting projects within the tourism sector
- A post-graduate degree in economics;
- Experience with quantitative analysis software such a s Python, R, Stata;
- Experience of client-facing work and the ability to develop commercial relationships with potential clients
